East Jordan - September 25

This was a day of relatively co-operative subjects and great light. Great Blue Heron, Goldfinch and Wood Ducks.
I ended the Wood Duck session early when I lost patience and attempted to get closer than I should - hence the final flight shot.

Great Egret

White-rumped Sandpiper

These birds are generally fairly common here in late summer. They arrive later than the Least and the
Semipalmated and associate with the other peeps but are a little larger in size. August 31, Mathew's Lake.

Least Sandpiper

This was one of the first shots of the day in a day that had many. I thought I would post it last since
it's probably my favourite. You can see how low the sun still was by the shadow of the bird's bill.
Aug. 30, Mathew's Lake, NS

Whimbrel

This was the most co-operative Whimbrel I have ever come across. I was happy to be able to get
so many great shots of what can be a difficult subject to photograph. Aug. 30, Louis Head, NS

Another Pectoral Sandpiper

This is my second Pectoral Sandpiper post in the last little while. I thought this was too good not
to include it here. He/she had just finished preening and looks a bit ragged.
Aug. 30, Mathew's Lake.

Stilt Sandpiper with Yellowlegs

I was hoping to have something fly in to photograph when a flock of birds arrived.
I was exited when the Stilt Sandpiper appeared from behind a grass hummock. The Lesser
Yellowlegs here gives a nice comparison of size and colouration.
Aug. 30, Mathew's Lake area.

Black-bellied Plover

These are possibly three individual birds all photographed in the same spot.
Aug. 30,  Mathew's Lake, NS

Peregrine Falcon

I noticed this bird as it attempted to grab a juvenile Herring Gull. After perching in a tree
for a few minutes it took flight and seemed to change course to check me out.
