Solitary Sandpipers - September 8

This was the day after Hurricane Dorian tore through the area. I had to clamour over some pretty large downed trees to get to a spot that is usually pretty accessible. I was a little surprised to find a couple of these birds in an area that usually has some wet areas but in this case was completely flooded. Most of the flotsam the birds were walking on were downed branches from the storm. They were quite easy to approach which is not that uncommon for this species but seemed appreciably more so on this day.  It was late in the day and the light made them tricky to photograph, one minute they were in sun and the next in a more shaded area. The second photo was a moment when the bird was in direct sunlight when I first discovered they were there.
