Peregrine Falcon - Preening

Another juvenile Peregrine. I haven't had good luck getting shots of them sitting.
This time I was able to get a few shots off before being noticed.

Dunlin

These were all taken on different days at Mathew's Lake, the latest being the top picture which I took
on October 19th. There were still quite a few birds at the lake including several Red Knots, one Dowitcher
and a few Pectorals. I'd say the majority of birds were Dunlin and White-rumped Sandpipers as well as a few
dozen Black-bellied Plovers.

Gannet

It was a slow birding day but I did manage to get a few shots of a Gannet as it flew directly overhead.

Buntings

This may be a first for me - two bunting species in the same day. The Snow bunting (top) was the first
of the season for me, the Indigo bunting (bottom - juvenile male) was the first since last fall. He was showing
a bit of blue - mostly in the wings and tail. October 12, West Head and Hemeon's Head respectively.

Peregrine Falcon

I don't think this bird saw me at all. The wind held the bird in a spot where I was able to get off a few
shots. Of those, this was the only one where I was able to keep the whole bird in the frame given how close it was.

Yellow-billed Cuckoo

I have seen this species in each of the last three years and always in October which is generally
when they occur here. These are the best photos I've been able to get to date.

Blackpoll Warblers

These are likely three different birds from a small flock that passed by my house September 30. The middle bird is
obviously an adult male still moulting into his full winter plumage.

Red-breasted Nuthatch

There have been lots of Nuthatches in my woods recently - at least they have been very
vocal. This one stayed put long enough to have its portrait taken. Sept. 30, East Jordan.

Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow

Although this wasn't the sparrow I was looking for I was happy to find this one in favourable
light before the clouds moved in. Early morning September 29, Mathew's Lake area.
