I've always liked how birds look on the really cold days. The way they are able to fluff up their feathers
to insulate themselves from the bitter cold. They handle the weather better than me. These were actually
taken on two separate days, the first on January 6 in East Jordan, the latter two at Hemeon's Head on January 17.
The wind chill on the 17th was the worst I've been out in for a long while.

Woodpeckers

Male Hairy Woodpecker - Jan. 6, East Jordan. One of four Hairys coming to my feeders.

Female Downy Woodpecker - Jan. 7, East Jordan.
The one lonely Downy Woodpecker that I've had.

Ring-billed Gull

Four in a series of shots of a Ring-billed Gull taken at Mathew's Lake on Jan. 11. I'm not sure if there was
a payoff at the end. If there was then I missed that shot.

Red Knot

Some shots of a group of three Red Knots that I found at Mathew's Lake on January 11.
There are usually a few birds that try to over-winter here. This year I've seen more than in recent past years.

Pine Siskins



The Pine Siskins arrived at the feeder in the past week but have seemed to disappear as quickly as they arrived.
The first couple shots were taken on a rainy day - you can see rain drops as streaks in the images,
The last shot was from a snowy day -the bird's plumage is puffed out more to insulate against the cold.
January 4, 8 - East Jordan.

Harlequin Ducks

These were taken on two separate days in roughly the same location. Dec. 26 and Jan. 1 - Little Port L'hebert.
