This was the largest flock of Black-headed Gulls I've seen for a while. There were several more than I have pictured here.
They were pretty active as well, this being a day when the ice was breaking up after a mild day with a lot of wind.
January 25, Mathew's Lake.
Black -capped Chickadee
I've always liked how birds look on the really cold days. The way they are able to fluff up their feathers
to insulate themselves from the bitter cold. They handle the weather better than me. These were actually
taken on two separate days, the first on January 6 in East Jordan, the latter two at Hemeon's Head on January 17.
The wind chill on the 17th was the worst I've been out in for a long while.
The Pine Siskins arrived at the feeder in the past week but have seemed to disappear as quickly as they arrived.
The first couple shots were taken on a rainy day - you can see rain drops as streaks in the images,
The last shot was from a snowy day -the bird's plumage is puffed out more to insulate against the cold.
January 4, 8 - East Jordan.
