Black-headed Gulls

This was the largest flock of Black-headed Gulls I've seen for a while. There were several more than I have pictured here.
They were pretty active as well, this being a day when the ice was breaking up after a mild day with a lot of wind.
January 25, Mathew's Lake.

These are all great Russel - but the last shot is absolutely awesome! For me all the fuss about making the perfect close-up bird portraits like they were taken in a studio under 'controlled conditions' misses the wonder of birds entirely. Seeing birds, capturing, photographing their beautiful life history behavioural adaptations and their perfect place in relation to the habitats in which they live and point of evolution to their environment - that is where it is at. Fantastic work!

Thanks Mark, I like the last one too. I do like taking those controlled shots but for me, being out in the birds habitat and just observing is much more interesting. Getting that special shot is the bonus when it happens.
