For the past several years Spotted Sandpipers have been nesting in the same general location near where I live. This year I had discovered the nest shortly after the eggs were laid and anticipated roughly when they would hatch if it was successful. I misread the situation and thought it was a failed nesting when the chicks weren't evident after the eggs disappeared. They are pretty good at hiding in the long grass and it was probably a week after hatching when I first started seeing the chicks with one of the adults.
