American Robins

In an attempt to stay somewhat current with my posts I thought I would post these images of American Robins.  They appeared in numbers only recently and there seemed to be fewer overwintering this year. Once the ground thawed they were on the lookout for earthworms.

American Widgeons

I haven't had much luck with this species in the past. I had a couple days this past Winter where I was a little more successful in getting good images. Both male an females in these photos.

Eagle on Ice

I don't think this needs any other description. Interestingly the geese in the area remained where they were in the water while all the ducks took flight.

Snow Day - Mourning Dove

We didn't have that many snow days this year. This image was taken during one of them.

Common Merganser Hen

By the time Winter had ended I was getting a little tired of photographing these birds. I have to say that they are a pretty reliable subject at times. I was lucky enough to photograph a few other species of waterfowl after the day these images were taken.

Canada Geese

A couple images from this Winter and another from early in the Fall of a bird that appears to be one of the Western sub-species, This bird was smaller and darker than any of the other local geese and seemed more content hanging out with the ducks than other geese in the area at the time.

Common Mergansers

This was my first time photographing Common Mergansers this Winter. They were many days after this one where I did the same with a little more success than during this outing.

Iceland Gulls

I watched a few gulls feeding in the heavy surf on one Winter's day. Among them were two or three Iceland Gulls in various plumages, from the almost white juveniles to the grey mantled adults. Paler than a Herring Gull and slightly smaller these birds are regular Winter visitors to our shores.
