I had a Pine Siskin at my feeder today, the first one this year. Hard to pick out at first among all the female Purple Finches. This is not that bird but a shot of another individual from about this time last year.

Red-breasted Mergansers - Females and Juvenile Male
As with most Winters, this year was another productive one photographing mergansers. I managed to get all three species and was quite successful with the smallest member of the family - the hoodies. Red-breasted were more common this year at the location I frequent although the adult males were scarce. It's more common to see those birds in the open ocean.

Wood Ducks in the Morning Mist
It took some effort to get out of bed in time to take these images. In this kind of light you're really only attempting to capture shapes of birds. Wood Ducks have that iconic look that is hard to mistake even in these conditions.

Juvenile Male Indigo Bunting
In the interest of staying a little more current with my images, here are some I took a couple weeks back of an Indigo bunting seen along the shore near Lockeport. I assume it's a juvenile since an adult should have had a full compliment of indigo plumage by this time of year.

Harlequin Ducks
I didn't have a lot of luck photographing Harlequins this year. The ocean is a big body of water so it's not always easy to get close without jeopardizing your equipment or yourself. Other than the earlier shots on the rocks these were the best I could do.

American Robin - Portraits
A sure sign that Spring is here is when the Robins show up in numbers and all the lawns are snow free and the ground has thawed enough for the earthworms to come to the surface. Although I haven't taken photos of Robins pulling worms out the ground this year, here are a couple of portraits.
